Finally it’s time for Ghostbusters Fans from all generations get to get their proton packs, set up their ghost traps, and wear a classic beige jumpsuit because Ghostbusters: After Life flew to theaters in Nov. 19! The sci-fi fantasy comedy is the fourth film in the franchise, however After Life came as a direct sequel and tribute to the original Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989). Even if it is set for today, After Life there’s a lot of ’80s nostalgia. Director Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, continues the franchise and his father’s legacy. by taking where he left off and mixing the old cast with the new.
After Life followed by Dr. Egon Spengler from the original Ghostbusters‘daughter and grandchildren, Callie, Trevor, and Phoebe Spengler (Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, ug McKenna Grace). Egon left the Spenglers (with no money) in his old farmhouse in Summerville, Oklahoma, giving them a chance to start a new life. Not only do Trevor and Phoebe realize that their grandfather is a Ghostbuster, but after revealing his rusty equipment and the mysterious secrets of the town where he spent his last years, Trevor, Phoebe, and their bag our friends must unite to save the world from an old and powerful enemy -you guessed it, many ghosts! You don’t have to know the whole backstory behind the original movies to understand the ending of After Life, but fans can still leave the theater with scary questions, so if you’re not afraid of no ghosts, let’s break up – or bust – that end!
Why Did Egon Spengler Leave Ghostbusters and His Family?
Throughout the movie, we learn through Callie’s backstory that Egon left her when she was young and left her friends, family, and co-workers (aka the Ghostbusters) to move anywhere. Callie and the people of Summerville all believe she has a mental illness. When Phoebe spends a few hours in jail with Trevor and Podcast (Logan Kim) for destroying the town by proton explosions while on ghost hunting, she calls the old Ghostbusters helpline, and is answered by Ray Santz (Dan Akroyd) is on the phone. Ray tells Phoebe that after the Ghostbusters have seen fewer clients over the years, Egon has betrayed his friends by stealing most of their equipment, taking, and preaching about the end of the world, but in Phoebe soon realizes that is not the whole story.
As the ghosts continue to make trouble in Summerville, the children discover a pit of angry spirits deep in the town’s abandoned mining complex held back by a system of proton packs. Not only do the proton packs explain the mysterious earthquakes the town has experienced recently, but Phoebe quickly realizes that her grandfather sacrificed everything to move to Summerville and stop another major ghost apocalypse. , as it last devastated New York City in 1984..
Who are Ivo Shandor and Gozer?
That apocalypse that Egon tried to stop before he died was a direct plot to continue the original. Ghostbusters salida. In the 1984 film, the villain is Ivo Shandor, the leader of a cult that worships Gozer the Gozerian (the transformed god of destruction). Since then, he has built a temple at the bottom of Summerville (where the pit of angry ghosts is) to summon Gozer with all his ghosts and bring about the apocalypse once again. Shandor died before he could finish the job (his body is now housed in a glass coffin), but the end of the world is still predicted for 2021 on the temple wall.

The other ghosts from the original movie also scared us throughout the new movie. Finally, we see reincarnations of classic specter like Muncher, the gooey, metal-eating ghost flying and spitting shrapnel, Zuul the Gatekeeper, and Vinz the Keymaster as Hell-hounds of Gozer, and teeny- small but annoying evil Stay Puft Marshmallow Men (instead of a giant with Marshmallow Man, of course).
How Did Spenglers and Friends Stop the World from Ending ?!
As predicted, Gozer is summoned when demonic dogs Zuul and Vinz successfully acquire Callie and summer-school teacher Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd), which breaks Egon’s proton pack system and releases all trapped ghosts into Summerville. Trevor, Lucky (Celeste O’Connor), Phoebe, and Podcast put on ghostbusting gear and head to the mines to stop Gozer before he begins his day of destruction. They plan to trap Gozer in a ghost trap and take it back to Egon’s farm house because all the electric dirt farm towers he made before he died is actually a giant trap to destroy all the ghosts from Shandor’s mine and prevent the apocalypse of Gozer’s return. While the kids are successfully trapping Gozer, things go awry when they release him, so who do you call? The original Ghostbusters, Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Winston Zeddimore (Ernie Hudson), and Ray Stanz, arrived just in time to help the kids get the job done. Together (and with a little help from the friendly ghost of Egon Spengler, an ethereal CGI thriller by Harold Ramis himself), they defeated Gozer once and for all. When Gozer-zo is gone, the Spenglers give Egon’s ghost a last hug before he disappears into the air. As the camera pans into the starry sky, the words “For Harold” appear on the screen.
Is there a Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel?
There is ongoing speculation as to whether one After Life the sequel is on the way, but Reitman expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his father’s franchise, even if he wasn’t directing it. During a panel with Fun every week, he said, “We want to make a movie that opens up the universe to all kinds of stories. I want to see Ghostbusters movies from all my favorite directors, and we hope this movie sets the table for that. “
